Buyer beware November 15, 2008 Nowhere in the review does it mention that this item DOES NOT COME WITH A BATTERY. A 12 volt battery is $30 and an 18 volt battery is almost $50. I would not have purchased this item if I had known that. Also, it mentions a connection for an mp3 player but requires an adapter that did not come with mine and is not identified in the directions so another expense. It is very heavy and will be more so with the missing battery.
Pricy, but the best alternative September 13, 2008 This radio is really pricy, overpriced actually. But it really is the only alternative. The Rigid has that foolish scanner (try and get that radio through the gate at a race!) and won't charge a battery, the Milwaukee only makes best power with battery, if you plug it in it only puts out like 7 watts!, the DeWalt is a waste cause it kills any battery you leave plugged in. Now, on to why I bought the Bosch: It has the best review of all out there. It is really well protected. It sounds great. The reception is as good as any other radio I have used. No better, no worse.
The remote is worthless. Even brand new battery pointed directly at radio it has range of about 20 feet.
I also bought the iPod dock. WAAAAAAY over priced at nearly $50.00 but Bosch stopped making it and I want something to protect my iPod.
Conclusion: If Bosch got rid of the remote or gave it a 300 foot range in any direction, ditched the CD player nobody uses, and integrated the iPod player like other manufacturers and lowered the price $50.00 this radio would be a no brainer. They didn't but it still the best option out there.
Excellent product August 28, 2008 I am a water aerobic instructor and needed a boom box that would withstand any water contact while teaching and this product has accomplished this. The sound it produces is amazing even in a large indoor pool setting. My students like the way it looks and have commented on the quality of sound it produces
Under-powered Box August 1, 2008 This product could have easily been a 5 star rating had Bosch even given this thing an average wattage amplifier (the specs list at 3.5 watts ?!?!). The volume knob will increase power from 0 to 20 in 1 unit increments. If it is completely quiet and I am 15 feet from the radio I have to keep it at 15 just as a comfortable background music while carrying on a conversation. As for the bad tuner reception that I have read in other reviews, this is probably true although I live in a larger city and I am not searching for any far away stations but it does not receive stations as near as well as a crappy older radio I have. I have had this radio for 6 months and everything works fine and I have had it in a very dusty environment for a lot of this time. All the additional bells and whistles are nice but first and foremost this is a music player and should do that part very well. Had I not already owned many Bosch cordless tools where the battery element on this unit came into play then I probably would have rated it at two stars.
Works great (so far)!! July 24, 2008 I have used my Bosch Job Site radio several times since it arrived. Every component works just fine. I love being able to use my Bosch rechargeable batteries for cordless power. I have read the negative reviews and still bought the Bosch primarily because I already have the compatible batteries. I could not be happier with this item!! I take it outside all the time. It was a joy to use while camping with my friends. We listened to MP3s, CDs, and the radio without a problem. All the components sounded great. It's solid construction makes using it less worrisome. I used to take a radio outside/camping but it would continually fall over from a small gust of wind or someone inadvertently bumping it. Bosch products have yet to let me down. That's why they are usually my first choice.
