Amazon.com Product Review Whether you're installing your first garage door opener or replacing an old one, this is a great choice. First, it's supremely quiet, thanks to the vibration-free belt drive, and the 1/2-horsepower motor won't let you down over the years. And while most garage door openers have a light socket or two for perhaps a 60-watt bulb, this one has two sockets for two 100-watt bulbs, and the illumination in an otherwise dark garage is unparalleled. Speaking of illumination, we also liked the SoftGlo wall button because it's a cinch to find in the dark. It's also got a lock and a handy light switch. As far as security, this model's ahead of the game with high-tech anti-burglary coding and a keyless entry pad as well as two remotes with three programmable buttons on each one, letting you control a separate door, gate or light. The unit itself weighs 39 pounds, so installation isn't a terrible ordeal, though you'll want to inventory all the hardware you'll need for the job, since it might not be included. Chamberlain's got top-notch customer service, and the motor in this opener has a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste What's in the Box 1/2 hp belt-drive garage door opener, two remotes, soft-glow wall control, keyless entry pad

Hard to imagine a better garage door opener December 1, 2008 Lets cut to the chase here - if you are in the market for a garage door opener, your search has ended, just add this to your cart and look forward to a straightforward installation and an all round excellent package.
Why is it such a simple choice? Here were my priorities when I purchased an opener: 1: Build Quality - Chamberlain has a great track record here and the unit is rock solid. 2: Noise - Mine is installed under the master bedroom and I leave home at 6am, so noise was an issue. Lets call it what it is, this is a garage door opener and it makes noise, but it is MUCH quieter than chain or screw drives 3: Features - Does everything I could want. I have two units and had no problem programming the remotes and keypad to work with both. Also, the lights are good and bright and the package contains everything you could need for a solid install. 4: Ease of install - I am a new homeowner so don't have a clue about home improvement. That said, I had no problem installing each unit on my own in about 3 hours. If this is a fresh install then you will need additional mounting brackets but you can get these cheaply enough from your local home improvement store.
Am I a happy customer - no doubt, this is one of few products that exceeded my expectations in every dimension.
What didn't I like? The wire which came with the unit was shorter than I would have liked. I have a large garage and routed the wire along corners to hide the wiring as best I could. The supplied wire just wasn't long enough and I ended up springing for some more wire for $10 or so.
What else? My door is 6 ft, if you have a larger door then you will need the additional rail extension which does not ship with the unit.
What tools will you need? I managed it with a drill, a sprocket set, a hacksaw and a phillips head screwdriver.
Chamberlain Whisper Drive 1/2 HP Garage Door Opener #WD822KD October 30, 2008 This opener is a significant step forward in this business. It is indeed very quiet due to belt and spring buffer, a small and cheap addition, almost eliminate ugly buckling. Sectional rail is a great innovation. It makes shipping easy and cheap and provides installation flexibility. Wide range of accessories is also something that everybody would like. And all this is achieved for a very moderate price. A fixed length of the belt is the only disadvantage. There must've been different lengths of belt available so that an installer could choose from for different number of sections or there must've been a kit provided that allows to change belt length according to number of sections used.
Excellent product for a DIY project..... October 18, 2008 I purchased two of these Chamberlain Whisper Drive 1/2 HP Garage Door Openers to replace my 16 year old Stanleys. They went in without a hitch and work perfectly. I had both of mine changed out within a few hours. If you are looking for a quality product at a fair price, look no further. These are top notch!
Good and Simple setup October 12, 2008 If you already have a garage door opener in place, this is a fairly simple upgrade; Just remove the existing wall button and garage door opener part and replace with newer button and garage door opener. Our old unit was a LiftMaster chain drive. The existing child sensor and wiring worked without a hitch with this unit. It took 2 adults about 3.5 hrs taking our sweet time. Saved us a ton on labor that we were quoted for. The opener is quiet and very smooth. You should adjust the power and travel distance per instruction spec. Just because it opens and closes doesn't mean its calibrated correctly to your home. I also used low-wattage bulbs(2) instead of the standard 100watt... the unit gives out a ton of light. Have fun and good luck.
OUTSTANDING! September 29, 2008 Very few products, especially those that I have to assemble, ever meet my expectations once completed. These garage door openers, however, were an absolute "pleasure" to assemble and install. ALL parts fit together easily and the instructions were flawless in their clarity (again, rare). Once installed, the openers performed smoothly and quietly. They require virtually no adjustment for travel distance and force. The infared safety devices didn't require any adjustment after installation and performed as advertised. Overall, this experience has been OUTSTANDING and I recommend this product without reservation.
